This piece of bobbin lace is an ongoing process of making and performance piece. In Memory is a tribute to the 796 babies that were found in a septic tank at a mother and baby home in Tuam, Co. Galway.
The length and duration of the making process was not planned, but seems fitting in how it reflects the lengthy and ongoing process of exhuming and identifying the bodies. This will take years to complete and unfortunately, for the families of those connected to the children, they may never have the chance to bury their loved ones. As such, this work may never be removed from the pillow
While the Irish public have been shocked and horrified by the many atrocities and crimes committed by religious orders over the last century, the discovery of the mass grave in Tuam marked a watershed moment for the country.
