Welcome

Fiona Harrington is a visual artist and lacemaker. She has been working as an artist and educator for over 2 decades. In 2012, she completed a period of training at the Kenmare Lace and Design Centre in Co Kerry, where she learned Kenmare Needlepoint Lace, Bobbin lace and Carrickmacross Lace.

She went on to complete a Bachelor of Design in Textile Studies where she specialised in Lacemaking. Since then she has dedicated her time to making, reading, writing, teaching, learning and talking about lace. Her work has been exhibited extensively and she has been invited to demonstrate Irish lacemaking skills and present her arts practice in the US, Canada and Europe.

Each piece is meticulously worked by hand with thread as fine as a human hair. This thread is delicately intertwined to create a network of patterns using the single buttonhole stitch.

Through her innovative approach to lace, the heritage and history of lacemaking in Ireland is reinvigorated and preserved.
